In entire Kashmir Division out of total net sown area of 3.50 lac hectares, an area of 2.65 lac hectares are irrigated. The per capita area available in the state is 1.08 hectares in Kashmir valley and Ladakh Region respectively as taking the average holding size is 0.53 hectares. The number of farm operating families is 8.12 lacs.

Maize, Rice, Vegetables, Pulses are the main crops in Kashmir cultivated during the kharief season and Oilseeds, Pulses, Wheat and Vegetables are the main crops considered during the Rabi season. Vegetables have broken the seasonal barrier and most of the major vegetables are grown throughout the year. Well not to forget another prime cultivation of Kashmir is Saffron which is also the third highest Saffron production in entire world.
